“It sure was awfully nice of ya to invite me to this shindig,” Blaise said as the group was approaching their table.
Dennis scoffed. “I merely wish for you to see firsthand the horrors this establishment can offer.”
“Horrors?” Blaise raised an eyebrow, then turned to look at Lolly. “Is there some kinda inside joke that I’m not privy to here?”
The sullen teenager turned her head and glared at the woman talking to her. Behind them, her brother and his boyfriend were whispering into each other’s ears, and giggling.
“Apparently, you don’t want to know, Miss Kindle.” After that, no conversation followed. Just Shark and Sinbad having their own personal chat.
Then that stopped abruptly. Instead of talking amongst themselves, the group listened to the inner topics of the others stuck at the event. Most of them looked absolutely miserable.
“Here we are. It looks like the right table. I remember the last time we got the wrong seating location. Let’s just say it didn’t end well.”
Lolly looked behind them, and then looked to her father. “Uh, Dad…?”
“Not now, child. I need to see who got what seat here.” That appeared to be a moot point. Blaise had already sat down, watching her boyfriend find his own seat with a perplexed expression.
“Dad!” The teenager couldn’t be quieted.
The redheaded woman looked over at her, then gestured towards her. “You might want to listen to your kid here, Dennis.”
When her father gave her his full attention, Lolly pointed out the absence of a certain pair of males that had been with them.
Dennis was initially astounded at how they managed to run off so quickly and discreetly. He then shook his head, and went off to go look for them.
Sinbad loved being able to have access to the walk-in freezer. Of course, not as much as he loved who he was locking lips with.
“Are you sure you won’t get in trouble for doing this in here?” Shark asked as he pulled back and looked at him.
The redhead shrugged. “I might. It’s a possibility. As long as no one comes in here for some reason, we’ll be fine.
“And besides,” Sinbad leaned back as he continued whispering, “I come in here a lot by myself. I know a lot of good hiding spots. And this restaurant is too cheap for cameras, so…”
Blaise had no idea how long it took to search for two other men. She didn’t bother to go look for them alongside Dennis.
Instead, she decided to stay behind with Lolly. The teenage girl stared grumpily at the empty plate in front of her.
“So I guess there’s a waiting time before we get our menus, eh?” No reply. “Seeing whatever it is that’s going on here, I won’t be surprised if it takes all night.”
Still no response. For whatever reason, Lolly didn’t seem interested in small talk about dinner. Blaise still wanted to try to find something to connect to, so she brought up another topic.
“How’s school going?” Finally a response, if a reluctant one.
“Sucks as always. The subjects are terrible, and I’m pretty sure one of the students is sabotaging the School mascot.”
The older woman made a sound of dull surprise. “Alma didn’t say anything about that…”
Hearing the first name of one of her teachers confused Lolly. Blaise realized she would have to clarify.
“Oh! I live with one of the teachers. Miss Drill? She’s awesome. Wants to be a writer. Never could see myself in that profession. What about you?”
Lolly shook her head. “I never really write anything. Unless it’s for a writing assignment. Maybe some poetry.”
“I see.” It was obvious that Blaise was starting to get hungry. Very much so, apparently. “Well, if those damned menus ain’t gonna be coming anytime soon…Is anyone watching?”
Lolly then had to watch a grown woman eat a paper napkin.
“Oh, man,” Sinbad groaned out as he pulled back for air, “I can’t wait until this stupid party thing is over with.”
“Me, either.” Shark then wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s neck. “Would you believe that I don’t really like parties?”
“Somehow, yes.” The two then resumed their intimate activities.
At some point, Sinbad’s leather jacket had come off, leaving him bare-chested. This got Shark to trace his finger over the tattoo so proudly inked on his skin.
“Funny how I’ve seen this so many times, but I’m still amazed by it.” The brunet then stuck his tongue out, and slid it across the elaborate artwork.
That was about as far as they got, though. Before going any farther, they heard a knock on the door.
“You two better be in here! I’m not willing to look in any other rooms.” Dennis’ voice snapped them out of their reverie. “There is no way I’m looking in that smelly-ass bathroom…”
“I’m aware you two enjoy your fooling around, but you’re in a public establishment with nearly the entire town close by,” Dennis said as he admonished the two younger men. He dragged Shark and Sinbad back to the dining area.
“Boss, I work here. We’d have been fine-”
Dennis snorted. “There was a chance you could’ve lost your job if your boss found out! I have little to no experience with walk-in freezers, but that is not their intended use, sir!”
“We were just having a little fun, Dad,” Shark cried out. “We weren’t gonna…you know…”
“Just save it for when you get home then, boy.” The patriarch looked out over the booths and tables, and found the one with his daughter and girlfriend.
Seeing them, he let go of the other two men, and made his way back. He didn’t expect the sight waiting for him.
“Sorry for that delay, and- Oh my word.”
Blaise was sitting patiently, seemingly ignoring the new table addition.
“Oh, you are back! Tell them we didn’t order this.” She then pointed to the naked man laying on top of their table and thoroughly traumatizing Lolly.
Dennis recognized who it was, then sighed deeply before uttering, “Dammit Bill.”
“So does yer brother always tend to do or see weird things in the nude?” Blaise made small talk with Dennis as she drove him home.
“LSD can be quite an intense drug, madam,” Dennis quietly stated, then clarified, “not that I would know first-hand. He…He has his problems, let’s leave it at that.”
Another thought then came to mind. “He didn’t do anything particularly unpleasant, did he?”
“Nah. I don’t think he even noticed me. He just walked up, mumbled something I couldn’t really hear, then fell onto the table. That’s about it.”
“Well, that’s good! I swear, that man needs help. They all do, I’ll say that.”
The other three in the back listened intently to what he had to say, his children wondering if they were included. Or at least tried to. Lolly was more upset with being squished between her brother and his boyfriend.
Soon, the car stopped in front of the house.
“This looks to be yer stop, guys.” The passengers got out relatively quickly. Dennis briefly stopped to make sure he could try making up the bizarre night another time.
Sinbad sat on the couch, wide-eyed and staring off seemingly into space. Shark seemed too busy to really notice, as he was adding several anime shows to their Netflix list.
When he did notice, he tried waving his hand over the redhead’s face. It didn’t initially seem to do much good.
“Dude,” Sinbad said in a detached manner, “what is it with your uncle and getting naked?”
“I don’t know. No one tells me. Are you okay?”
Sinbad waved it off. “I’ve seen worse. Can we just, I don’t fucking know, watch some TV shows tonight? You pick.”
“Something besides The Almighty Johnsons? I’m not feeling up to watching that tonight, personally.”
The redhead nodded. “Sure. Put on House of Cards or Mad Men, anything like those. Just whatever gets the image of Bill’s ass out of my mind.”
“You got it.” Shark then chose a show at random, and quietly watched alongside his boyfriend. They got about a quarter of the way through the season until both of them retired for the night.
Both men told themselves not to go to another town-wide party as they went to sleep.
