By the time it was three o’clock, Shark was practically bedridden. He was at least grateful for his father bringing up things he could entertain himself with.
Now Shark was pulling out yet another DVD after watching the whole thing, all while trying not to knock any of his books onto the floor. He then held up two more cases while debating which one to watch next.
“What am I in the mood to watch now?” He asked himself in a voice strained by illness.
When he couldn’t make a decision, Shark just put all the DVDs onto a pile, and flopped back onto the bed. A little while later, his mother clumsily waltzed in.
“Um…” Shark wanted to pinch his nose shut to keep from smelling the booze on her. “Hi, Mom.”
It took Silver a few moments to realize she was even being talked to, let alone by her son. When she did notice him in bed she pointed a shaky finger at him.
“Sharrrrk…” She uttered in a very definite slur. “Where’s that…That old guy wha’s been livin’ here for years? The…The balding one.”
“You mean Grandpa?” Shark didn’t like seeing his mother this way. “I don’t know where he is. Haven’t seen him all day.” The pain of saying so many words at once made his throat hurt.
As Shark was rubbing his sore throat, Silver wandered off again in search of Max. Now that he was alone again, Shark laid back again and tried to get a little rest.
Once more, Shark was awakened, this time by loud banging on the doorframe. As he sat up again, he caught sight of Sinbad leaning on it.
Sinbad seemed to be prepared for Shark’s illness, considering the face mask he had on.
“Hey, what’s up?” His cavalier attitude at least brought an amused grin to Shark’s face.
This in turn got him to think of a quip of his own. “My temperature, I guess.”
Sinbad then approached him, and handed him something wrapped in a plastic bag. “You like these weird Japanese books, right?”
Not commenting on that, Shark just took the slapdashly wrapped parcel, and opened it up. The contents within were revealed to indeed be a manga book he hadn’t got yet.
“How’d you get this so quickly? Volume seventeen was just released on the fifth of this month!”
Sinbad gave a casual shrug. “I don’t know. Connections, I guess.” He then went quiet before asking something else. “Want me to make you some soup or something?”
It was awkward having to rely on someone else just to take a walk downstairs.
Shark kept himself on Sinbad’s shoulder as they reached the kitchen. Right away, both of them were confronted by a bizarre, yet expected sight.
“Um…Bill?” Shark’s uncle paid no heed to who just walked in. He went right on eating an entire stick of butter as though it were a banana. Next to him, two bottles of olive oil lay empty, being smeared all over his entire naked body.
“Right, I’m just gonna go…” Sinbad pointed to the oven as he led Shark to the table. “Just gonna go over here.”
During the next few minutes or so, Sinbad tried to go about his business in making tomato soup for Shark. It was made difficult as he attempted not to slip on the oil on the floor.
“Won’t be too long, man,” he said to Shark as he got the oven ready. Shark just nodded, hoping Bill would just leave.
Eventually, Bill indeed proceeded into the next room, albeit crawling on the floor like an oversized human slug. His presence became noted when he reached the sitting room.
“I am the emperor of Atlantis!” Bill shouted. This announcement was followed by Lolly screaming and Dennis yelling, “What the hell?!”
As soon as the soup was heated enough, Sinbad spooned it into a bowl for Shark.
“So apparently, your daddy says I gotta watch you until you start feeling better. Sound cool?”
Shark nodded again. He slowly began consuming his soup, as he and Sinbad watched Bill get sprayed with a garden hose on full blast.
