Once again, Sinbad was left alone in the cramped little cage that he’d been shoved into.
The Builder had gone off somewhere, presumably to cook the clone’s face that they had been munching on.
“Yeah, this is real accommodating…” Sinbad mumbled to himself.
Once more the door creaked open, and once again, it was Moony who revealed himself. This time, he had brought Sunny with him.
Moony put a finger up to his masked face, telling Sinbad to keep quiet. He then pulled out a key from his cloak sleeve.
“Dinnae be needing ye to make too much noise now,” he whispered as he got to Sinbad’s cage. Carefully, he inserted the key into the lock, as Sunny kept watch in case The Builder came back.
A bit of jiggling and several cuss words later, the cage door swung open. When Sinbad stepped out, he was immediately overcome with pain from being in such a small place for too long.
“Ow, fuck!” He tried to keep his voice down, just as Moony asked him to.
“All right now. Ye just work the kinks out…” Once Sinbad was stretched to his full height, Moony led him to the doorway. He then pointed right, down the hall.
“If’n I remember right, that bampot is in their cellar chuggin’ like crazy. So ye should be fine. Just go that way ’til ye reach the corner, go up the stairs, then go down three doors. Should be in there.”
The only thing Sinbad could really do was nod his thanks, as he sprinted through the directions he was given.
“So approximately how far do these passageways stretch?” Dennis left the others behind, and he and Sagebear followed Horse-Face’s companion through one of the corridors.
The young man shrugged. “I’d guess throughout the entire place. I can’t say for sure, since I’m not supposed to wander too much into the deeper passages.”
Dennis was confused at this. “Why is that?”
Again, a shrug. “I couldn’t tell you. They just don’t want me to.” He peeked into a crack in the wall. “Not that that stops me from doing it anyway.” Stepping away, he let Dennis have a look.
Hazarding a glance, Dennis stepped back in shock at seeing his son. The fact that he was naked, and Harwood was getting dressed next to him, immediately got him to draw conclusions.
“What in the world…? Why?” Horse-Face’s companion didn’t really give him a proper answer. He just bent down to pet Sagebear.
“It could be worse,” he said instead. “And before you ask what could be worse, trust me…You don’t want to know the answer.”
Given the way he was bending down, Dennis couldn’t quite see the tears that were now falling down the young man’s cheeks.
But he could certainly hear him sobbing.
Harwood had just gotten his shirt back on when Sinbad entered the room. The look on his face was hard to read, but it seemed to hold contemplation.
“So, uh…You done fucking?” Hearing Sinbad’s voice startled Harwood a little. He then breathed a sigh of relief at knowing The Builder hadn’t killed him.
Then Harwood nodded, and got up off the bed. “Yes, it’s over. And I think…”
He glanced over at the still distant Shark. “I think right now he needs you by his side.”
Sinbad didn’t say anything about the now visible half of his father’s face. Instead, he took his advice and went to be by Shark’s side.
“Hey man,” he said to him as he took a spot next to Shark on the bed. Shark finally moved to look up at him, and adjusted himself so his head rested on Sinbad’s lap.
The entire time, Annette stood by watching quietly. She wasn’t entirely sure what she could say, but was at least grateful Sinbad wasn’t sniping at her like usual.
Now that Sinbad was gone, Moony sat facing away from the door, breathing out. Sunny relieved himself of guard duty and joined him.
“I don’t know why I did that,” Moony said to him once the other man was seated. “I probably wouldn’t even do that for the other assistants.”
He leaned up against Sunny’s arm, and sighed deeply. “Maybe I relate to him in some way.” It was then only at that point he considered the repercussions:
“I am going to get stung so bad, aren’t I?” As he spoke, Moony tried not to acknowledge the sense of foreboding in the back of his mind.
He also tried to ignore the sudden, intense smell of alcohol behind them both.
